What is Kriya Yoga?

Kriya Yoga is a meditation technique that quickly accelerates one’s spiritual growth. It was first made widely known by Paramhansa Yoganandaji in his Autobiography of a Yogi.

Kriya is taught at Ananda Sangha just as Yoganandaji taught it — as a comprehensive spiritual path. Its effectiveness has been demonstrated by thousands of dedicated Ananda Kriya Yogis, from all walks of life, religions, nationalities, and backgrounds.

According to Yoganandaji, Kriya is the most effective practice available to mankind for reaching the goal of Yoga: union with the Divine. Kriya is also very practical in its effectiveness. Kriya Yogis find that it enhances their ability to concentrate, to become more effective in business and in family life, and to become better people in every way.

You can learn Kriya Yoga by taking classes at one of our teaching centres, or at home through the Ananda Kriya Yoga Home Study Course. The final step of initiation into the technique of Kriya Yoga can take six months to one year. That time is spent learning all of the practices that are part of Yoganandaji’s Kriya approach, along with establishing a daily meditation routine.

The Art and Science of Raja Yoga contains fourteen steps in which the original yoga science emerges in all of its glory – a proven system for realizing one’s spiritual destiny. This comprehensive course on yoga and meditation offered today gives the yoga student a profound and intimate understanding of how to apply these age-old teachings on a practical, as well as spiritual, day-to-day level in this modern age.

Also one works towards deepening the techniques learned during step one.

Step Three: .A Handbook on Discipleship

The following subjects are covered in depth:

  • Does one need a living guru?
  • The role of divine grace in spiritual progress
  • How to follow a guru
  • Becoming a disciple of Paramhansa Yoganandaji and the Ananda Sangha line of Gurus.
Step Four: Preparation for Kriya Yoga

This is the final step of preparation toward initiation into the technique of Kriya. This step can only be taken after completing the first three steps.
